Governed like an operating system, not hoped into behaving
Synthmind Systems Ltd is a United Kingdom company. We exist to prove that an AI system can be inspectable, ownable and governed: a machine you can open, watch and trust, running on hardware you already have.
The mission
A mind you can own, on hardware you already own.
The defining AI systems of this decade are rented, opaque and hosted somewhere you cannot point to. We are building the counter-example: a cognitive operating system that runs where its owner runs it, explains itself in structures rather than vibes, and treats security and memory as anatomy rather than features.
The first people CIRO is built for are robotics hobbyists: makers who need an assistant that lives on their bench, not in someone else's cloud. An offline-capable desktop deployment comes first, with a Raspberry Pi port on the roadmap. In parallel, the project is maturing into a PhD thesis with the Open University: the same work, held to two standards at once.
How we work
Discipline is the product.
Decisions are recorded, never airbrushed
The project keeps a dated, numbered record of its doctrine. When a better understanding arrives, the new decision supersedes the old one, and the old one is preserved, not deleted. The evolution of the design is part of the design.
Correct loudly, never silently
When documentation was found to carry claims that could not be verified, it was rewritten and every unverifiable claim was marked as such. That rule is standing policy, not a one-time clean-up.
The system must know itself
Everything CIRO reports about itself is grounded in its own state (its registry, its health, its memory), not in an observer's guess. A mind that cannot inspect itself cannot be trusted to describe itself.
Modest hardware is a feature
The estate runs offline-first on deliberately ordinary machines. An architecture that cannot run modestly offline is a cloud client wearing an operating system's clothes.
The company is small. The claim is not.
